WITH LOVE L.
dir. Max Fritzsching, Chari Krause

WITH LOVE L. is a clever short film by Max Fritzsching and Chari Krause.
Max Fritzsching, born on August 23, 1988, in Berlin, is a German actor, musician, and filmmaker. At a young age, he found his passion for creative work after getting a role as an actor in a TV series. After studying at the SAE Institute in Berlin, he studied and graduated from the Schauspielschule Charlottenburg.
Chari Krause, born on June 5, 1980, in Recklinghausen, is a German director and screenwriter.
The short film tells the story of Jane’s life. Her life in a big city is monotonous, and every day feels the same. One day, she finds a mysterious note on her doorstep that takes her out of the dreariness of her daily grind and leads her on an emotional adventure that turns out differently than expected.
One of the great points of this film is the total absence of words. In a visual narrative world composed of images and actions, the directors are able to convey a very deep and immersive experience in the psychology of the main character.
The repetition of actions is a very clever instrument used by the directors to create a strong feeling of monotony and emptiness in Jane’s life.
The acting of the main character, played by Nadine Klein, is very intense and minimalist, always believable in a world she lives in that becomes, frame after frame, full of signs she cannot understand until the end of the film. Her actions become full of energy while her life changes from the starting point.
In a traditional narrative way, the short film ends with a final twist.
The sound design is coherent with the inner journey of the main character, and the editing really helps to convey her increasing sense of feeling lost.
The cinematography, signed by Frederik Baumert, is really refined and keeps the desaturated palette of white and grey until the life of the main character really changes.
Even if the short film was produced on a very low budget, one cannot infer that at all.
WITH LOVE L. is in the August 2023 Berlin Indie Film Festival Competition.
